DESCRIPTION
The goddess Aphrodite (Roman Venus) stands naked on a cockle shell following her birth from the sea-foam. She is attended by a pair of Erotes (Roman Cupids), one holding a mirror and the other box. Traditionally these two godlings were Eros and Himeros. Two other Erotes stand in the side panels of the mosaic catching fish and other sea creatures.
