DESCRIPTION
The goddesses Athena, Hera and Aphrodite present themselves to Paris in their contest for the golden apple of discord. The shepherd-prince sits on a rock surrounded by his hounds and sheep. Beside him stands the god Hermes and above him, standing on a rock, a tiny, winged Nike (Victory). The goddesses stand together in a group--Athena (left) wears a helm and carries a spear, Aphrodite (center) is seated and has a sceptre, and Hera is dressed in blue and gold and holds a royal sceptre. each holding a sceptre or spear. Aphrodite's winged son Eros stands on a plinth above her head.
